KNOW THE ROLE

1. Identifying the enterprise wide assurance environment and evaluating related risk

  • Maintain and develop awareness of risk issues and changes across the relevant business units
  • Strong analytical skills and common sense approach to ensure audit recommendations are relevant and practical
  • Build strong relationships with Senior Management and Executive teams
  • Provide advisory services on key risk areas to the business (e.g. GDPR, Policy, Procedures and Fraud).

2. Promoting Best Practice in Internal Control locally and across Selfridges’ group banners 

  • Work with management across the business to analyze issues, understand the root causes and provide help, support and practical solutions to strengthen control
  • Challenge the business, raising appropriate questions
  • Meet regularly with key stakeholders to review issues and best practices arising out of individual assignments and create and execute appropriate action plans for spreading best practices
  • Work closely with our other Internal Audit Managers in our other banners (Selfridges, de Bijenkorf and Holt Renfrew) to share and assess best practice that is relevant to your local business.
  • Awareness of best practices and alternative approaches in the retail industry3. Responsibility and Accountability for Internal Audit.
  • Responsibility for all assignments audits, financial reviews, and special projects
  • Evaluate systems of internal controls
  • Preparation of clear succinct working paper documentation, which links transparently from risk to control testing and results to support the procedures performed and findings noted in line with agreed group methodology.
  • Perform special projects arising from the request of company management, and prepare appropriate schedules and reports as necessary
  • Present audit findings and issues to senior management
  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders and business partners to influence control strengthening and constantly challenges senior management to succeed in strengthening controls and reducing losses
  • Provide assurance over Brown Thomas and Arnotts sustainability initiatives.

3. Risk Management

  • Coordinate and facilitate the bi annual risk assessment process across key risk departments
  • Act as a member of the executive risk committee and support the chair of the risk committee in preparation of the executive risk pack.

 

KNOW WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Qualified, e.g. ACCA/ACA/CIMA or CIA
  • Undergraduate Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Experience in internal auditing and experience of the retail sector is very beneficial 
  • Proactive and a self-starter – this role requires considerable ability to work independently
  • Demonstrate initiative, passion, and decisiveness
  • Ability to communicate and present to senior management and executive level
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of retail best practices
  • A passion for customer
  • Ability to plan and organize with good attention to detail
  • Professionalism, empathy, influencing, and interpersonal skills
