Head of Broker Relations

Description

We are currently seeking a Head of Broker Relations in our Boston, MA office to serve as Regional Broker Relations representative supporting Focus Groups in the growth of their respective business segments within the defined region including development of regional business plan. Deliver on assigned growth initiatives for assigned brokers and support Broker Relations leadership on completion of assigned projects that support US growth and service excellence objectives.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as Broker Relations ‘point’ on production activities of Focus Groups within the region.

  • Execute on assigned objectives for each Focus Group as defined in the BR Playbook.

  • Support development of the regional business plan working in collaboration with local Head of Office and assigned underwriters within the region.

  • Gain deep understanding of each underwriting team’s risk appetite and broker distribution strategy for assigned region.

  • Lead the development of well-defined growth objectives for selected broker trading partners (working in collaboration with HOO and underwriters).

  • Develop unique marketing, broker education and broker entertainment tools to support underwriters gain stronger traction with a select few trading partners and serve to build the Beazley brand.

  • Support underwriting teams at selected industry conferences that will enhance Beazley’s trading position with selected trading partners (CIAB, PLUS, ASHRM, RIMS + others TBA).

  • Communicate on a regular basis to partner brokers (in region) Beazley’s expectations on growth for each Focus Group. Special focus to be given to Global 3, Summit Broker partners and regional top 7 (if different).

  • Provide local underwriter and claims teams with candid feedback from broker trading partners on their views of Beazley’s service levels with the goal of moving towards service excellence.

  • Remain ever alert to identifying new business opportunities (single risk, book roll or regional strategy) that may not come across underwriters’ desk in day to day trading.

  • Serve as “eyes & ears” of underwriters in local broker market and provide market intelligence (where appropriate) on what Beazley competitors are delivering to brokers on pricing, terms and new products.

  • Utilize adopted BR broker pipeline to identify and qualify opportunities to ensure quicker response/ turn-around of submissions.

  • Track submission, quote and bind cycle of selected broker partners (as assigned) to ensure opportunities are vetted and move towards closure resulting in increased new business to relevant underwriting teams.

  • Provide underwriters with real time data from broker trading partners that delivers a clear view of Beazley’s “share of wallet” with partner brokers in region (taking advantage of some broker tools available).

  • Promote open/candid communication between broker partners (within region) and underwriting teams that supports a healthy/positive trading relationship and uncovers new growth initiatives underwriters may not see in day to day trading.

  • Have a complete understanding of Beazley results at regional level with a clear focus of universe with carriers and utilize sales methodology and tools to achieve sales targets and pipelines including heavy use of Beazley Connections (CRM).

  • Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system.  These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups.

 

Personal Specifications:

 

Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree education

  • 10 years industry experience [broker or insurer]

     

    Skills and Abilities

  • Effective relationship management skills with customer focussed approach

  • Ability to work independently for significant periods of time

  • Strong business development and sales skills, both internal and external

  • Good understanding of the drivers of distribution

  • Accurate and numerate

  • Computer skills – good working knowledge of CRM, MS Office, advanced Excel skills

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail

  • Able to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise

     

    Knowledge and Experience

  • General commercial and financial knowledge

  • Extensive experience in insurance industry

  • At least 6 years selling experience

  • Track record in developing profitable property/casualty business

  • Client service experience
