Our client is one of Scotland’s largest and most successful language services companies, working with a wide range of public and private sector clients throughout the UK with ambitious plans to expand into Europe and further afield.

With technology playing an increasingly important role in the delivery of language services, they have an on-going restructuring programme to shape the company to take advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead. This important role is an Operating Board-level position, reporting directly to the CEO and with responsibility for the Language Services Division’s three functional managers (Translation, Interpretation, and Resourcing) and the delivery of their financial goals and business objectives.

Due to a resignation it is important to fill this role quickly, and our client is open to both a temporary contract (say, for 3 months) and a permanent hire.

In addition, the Head of Language Services will seek to expand the company’s market footprint by developing a genuine USP that includes appropriate market segmentation strategies and development of services into other areas, such as sign language and provision of support for visually impaired.

Your key tasks will include:

  • Structuring the Language Services Division to meet the evolving requirements of the marketplace, responding to changing delivery mechanisms including development of on-line service provision. The tools are already selected and in the process of implementation, so overseeing the successful implementation is an important part of this role.
  • Establishing and maintaining quality and operational delivery performance standards across all areas, recognising the requirements of individual clients;
  • Developing and refining, along with external specialists, the bespoke portal software;
  • In collaboration with the Sales and Marketing Manager, extending the customer base in both public and private sectors;
  • Ensuring the provision of service suppliers is cost-effective, that quality standards are established and maintained and that individual supplier performance standards are monitored.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven Services Manager, with both language industry experience and with transferable skills from other related business areas, to come into the business and make a major contribution to its future success.

The position is based in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland and the UK's third largest. Today it's a national cultural hub, home to institutions including the Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and National Theatre of Scotland, as well as acclaimed museums and a thriving music scene.
