Engineering Manager - Juju Ecosystem

Job Summary

 

Juju is a Canonical sponsored open source project and product that provides for the modeling and operational management of your services, whether in your data center or in the cloud. Through our GUI, command line or API, you can easily move, scale and perform operational tasks on your services regardless of their location. The Juju Ecosystem team has three primary roles: 1) develop standards and tools to support the charm development community, 2) bootstrap new charm projects and work with upstreams to gain community adoption and 3) develop and maintain charm based products such as OpenStack and Kubernetes.

As a Juju Ecosystem Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for managing both high-performing engineering teams as well as guiding and overseeing all the tasks involved by those teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Organize and evolve the growing engineering teams to optimise quality and velocity

  • Implement and foster a culture of disciplined engineering process

  • Identify and measure team health indicators

  • Encourage product ownership and foster collaborative development across the entire team

  • Represent the Juju Charm & charm product teams (Openstack, Storage and Kubernetes) with respect to stakeholders, customers, and external teams

  • Support Product Management in engineering matters pertaining to Juju Charms and products

  • Ensure proper team focus on priorities, milestones, and deliverables

  • Deliver a quality product in a consistent timely manner

  • Grow the Juju Ecosystem with ISVs and Charm Community

Required skills and experience

  • Degree level education, preferably in a technology field

  • At least 7+ years experience as a engineering manager  

  • Strong communication and cooperation skills

  • Experience with agile software development methodologies

  • Involvement in open source projects in the past

  • Experience working in and managing distributed teams

  • Technical aptitude for understanding complex distributed systems

  • Knowledge of OpenStack, Kubernetes and Ceph/Swift components

  • Knowledge of Big Data and Container technologies

  • Experience with cloud topologies and technologies

  • Experience with devops/system administration is a plus

  • Ability to travel for up to a week at a time
  • Experience building OpenSource Communities
  • Experience bringing a new product to market
