Project Manager - Ubuntu and IoT

This is an opportunity to work with a forward thinking team focused on designing and delivering the next generation of Operating System across phone, tablet, desktop and IoT.

We are looking for an amazing Project Manager who will be responsible for bringing our design team to success owning the planning, monitoring, and reporting of the progress and managing the design priorities based on engineering and product priorities.

Working closely with the Head of UX and major stakeholders, you will shape the way we work to an all new level, using innovative methodologies such as Lean UX and Agile Scrum inspired workflow.

You will own the processes and will guide the smooth and timely execution of the team's activities ensuring that the pacing is maintained and the morale keeps high. It is a great opportunity for a PM looking to try innovative processes and shape an all new way of working, developing the role and be recognised for the contribution it makes to the success of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in project kickoff meetings, capture agreed scope, create meeting summaries and action items, ensure design briefs are completed for each project

  • Create and maintain project backlog in conjunction with the designers, and map out work items and create scrum tasks helping the Head of UX define priorities in conjunction with engineering and product

  • Manage multi-channel projects including Operating System and Apps for mobile phone, tablet, desktop, responsive app web stores and IoT

  • Produce a weekly report detailing per project and per person:

  • engineering priorities updates (roadmap), tasks completed during the week, tasks currently in progress and their ETA, any issues/risks?

  • Follow implementation progress throughout the development cycle, liaising with development teams offshore to identify potential expectation gaps between design and engineering team plans

  • Work closely with the Head of UX to build a culture and work practices to produce great creative work, help to define best practices for team coordination and communication

  • Identify internal and cross-organisational project risks as they become evident and escalate/resolve/report appropriately

  • Verify that the documentation produced by the design team is always shared with major stakeholders and up to date

  • Work with stakeholders up to board level and manage internal and customer teams as well as partners and suppliers

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least 4 years of strong experience of project managing design and ux teams

  • Strong experience delivering projects using Lean and/or Scrum methodology

  • Experience of coordinating large, cross functional project teams and successfully handling multiple projects and teams

  • Excellent stakeholders communication skills in large organisations

  • Uses own initiative and strives to improve efficiency and processes

  • Can do and proactive attitude, capable of working with people from different backgrounds and nationalities

  • Ability to find ways of solving or pre-empting problems and gain trust and respect from the team

  • Experience in discovery, coordination, evaluation, roll up and reporting of projects across teams

  • Effective leadership, interpersonal skills

  • Immaculate attention to detail

  • Ability to create a sense of community amongst the often disparate members of the project teams

  • Ability to adapt to the software environment and quickly learn about new technology and terminology

Desired

  • Software and/or Open source experience an advantage

  • Design or Creative agency background an advantage

  • Project management experience in a remote working environment

  • Experience shaping new processes and strive to help the team adapt to these
